Layers, borrowed from stone

The collection sits between sculpture and furniture, and the sizes make that explicit: round tops at several heights, meant to be grouped rather than used alone. Two or three Strata tables at different heights in front of a sofa make a landscape; one on its own is just a table with an interesting base.

Travertine is the material that explains the idea. It is a stone with visible bedding planes, so a table made from it carries the same layering in its surface as the design does in its form. Marble and glass versions read more graphically and cost differently.

The 2024 indoor version adds olmo nero, a dark elm, to the legs. Wood under a stone top changes the weight of the piece visually and practically, and in an apartment on an upper floor the difference in what has to be carried up the stairs is worth asking about.

Strata began outdoors, which means the construction tolerates rain and sun. Buying the outdoor version for an indoor room is entirely reasonable and occasionally cheaper, and we will say which one suits.

Two or three at different heights make a landscape. One alone is just a table.
