The difference between a sideboard and a sideboard system is what happens when your wall is not a standard length. A single piece either fits or it does not; a system is configured, so the same design runs three feet or nine, with doors and drawers where you need them.

The fronts carry the character. Glass makes the piece light and shows what is inside, which suits a dining room with things worth seeing; fabric and linen soften it and belong in a bedroom or a quiet living room; marble makes it an object and the most expensive of the four.

Massaud drew on older ideas of what furniture is for, and the result is a piece that reads calm rather than technical. That is worth saying because a wall system usually looks like joinery, and Aiko does not: it stands as furniture, and it can stand away from the wall.
